INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT UNISON ENGG INDUSTRIES, JALANDHAR.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at Unison Engg Industries, Jalandhar on 20th September, 2019 for 2nd and 3rd year B.Tech. Students to impart practical knowledge in the manufacturing processes course. More than 30 students were accompanied by two faculty members Dr. Sharanjit Singh and Er. Ved Raj Khullar.

Unison Engg Industries (An Unison Group of Companies), are engaged in manufacturing, trading and exporting a broad array of agricultural and construction equipments like  Rotary Slashes, Lawn Mowers, Khurpa Tools, Digging Tools, Shot Blasting machine etc. They are manufacturing the equipments using premium quality metal and other requisite material, while keeping in mind the quality standards laid by international organizations. The demand for their products is rising day by day as these are very easy to use, require minimum maintenance, are resistant against corrosion, ensure reliable performance and have robust construction. Industrial visit at Unison Engg Industries gave lot of practical experience to the students about manufacturing process that are performed on different tools and equipments. Students were apprised about the working of Hydraulic press machines, Metal Inert Gas welding, Plasma cutting machine, automatic pipe cutting machines, shot blasting equipments. Etc. Students were also given exposure to maintenance strategies to be followed in case of hydraulic presses.

 

DAV UNIVERSITY STUDENTS VISIT CENTRAL INSTITUTE OF HAND TOOLS

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at Central Institute of Hand Tools (MSME Tool Room), Jalandhar on 26th September 2019 for 2nd and 3rd year B.Tech. students to give them practical knowledge in the manufacturing processes and design course. More than 30 students were accompanied by two faculty members Er. Harish Garg and Er. Ved Raj Khullar.

Central Institute of Hand Tools is a premier organization responsible for the development of Hand Tool Industry in the country. It is ISO-9001:2008, ISO-14001:2004 certified and has NABL accredited Lab. The institute focuses on imparting Engineering Education in various skill development courses that are in great demand in the industries for product design & Development, CAD/CAM, CNC programming & machining, mechatronics/ automation with PLC, welding and quality control etc. It also provides services to the Engineering industries in various areas such as tool room, heat treatment, testing and quality control.

Mr. Sarabjeet Singh, the Manager at the institute, conducted a very informative session for the students about the working of CIHT. Students were given demonstrations on workings of wire electric discharge machining, drop forging, precision quality control tools and heat treatment methods. Thereafter, students interacted with the industrial personnel of different workshops and raised queries related to the procedures of working the conventional, non-conventional machines, quality control equipments etc.. Students felt enthusiastic and motivated as they felt that their academic curriculum is directly linked to the industry. Also, it lets students know things practically through interaction and working methods. 

 

INDUSTRIAL VISIT AT HYDROPOWER STATION UCHI –BASSI

 DAV University, Jalandhar is offering degree programme in Mechanical Engineering wherein the students are required to study the subject of fluid machinery in the 6th semester. As a part of this subject department provides exposure to students through on the site experience of witnessing a hydro power station in operation. In this regard, Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at HYDROPOWER STATION UCHI –BASSI on 23rd February, 2018 for third year students. More than 50 students were accompanied by two faculty members Mr. Ved Raj and Mr. Yogesh Sharma.

Mukerian Hydel Project is one of the main Hydro Electric Projects in the Northern Region situated in the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab. It is run of the river project, constructed at Mukerian Hydel Channel emanating from Shah-Nehar Barrage constructed down stream of Pong Dam on River Beas. The Project comprises of 4 No. Power Houses. Power House No. 1 & 2 have 6 Nos (3 at each Power House). Machines of 15 MW capacity each whereas Power House No.III & IV have 6 No. (3 at each Power House) machines of 19.5 MW capacity each. The total generating capacity is 207 MW of all the 12 No. Machines. The generating Units at each Power House can be put in service with minimum flow of 1600 cusec. The Mukerian Hydel Project generates electrical energy at 11 KV and after stepping up to 132 KV, the same is transmitted to Grid system at 132 KV. All the concepts related to operation and maintenance of Kaplan Reaction Turbine were explained to students by the officials of Hydro power station.

 

 

Industrial visit at RAIL COACH FACTORY,KAPURTHALA

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit atRAIL COACH FACTORY,KAPURTHALAon 25th November, 2017 for 3rd year B.Tech. students to impart practical knowledge in the manufacturing processes course. More than 35 students were accompanied by two faculty members Er. Ved Raj Khullar and Er. Palwinder Singh.

 RCF is a coach manufacturing unit of Indian Railways was Established in 1986. It has manufactured more than 30000 passenger coaches of different types including self-Propelled passenger vehicles which constitute over 50% of the total population of coaches on Indian Railways. RCF is equipped with a state-of-the-art CAD centre and CNC machines to undertake design and manufacture of Bogies. The agenda of visit was to aware the students with latest manufacturing technologies and their implementation.  Students were given exposure to various types of fabrication/ welding operations viz. CNC Controlled Plasma profile cutting, laser cutting, spot welding, GMAW, Robotic Welding Machine etc. and other advanced equipments such as test rig for running of bogies, advanced paint shop.

 

 

Industrial visit at Central Institute of Hand Tools, JALANDHAR

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit on 15th November, 2017 at Central Institute of Hand Tools, JALANDHAR for students of M. Tech (Industrial and Production Engineering) to impart practical knowledge in the course MEC756 (Advance Manufacturing Technology Lab).

Central Institute of Hand Tools is equipped with following CNC machines: Machining Centre, Turner Lathe, Turning Centre, Vertical Machining Centre, Trainer-Milling Machine, Wire Cut Machine, 3D Co-ordinate Measuring Machine. 

The Institute is providing assistance to the industries through Design Development of Forging Dies, Trimming Dies, Blanking Dies, Broaches, Gauges etc.

Six students of M. Tech (Industrial and Production Engineering) were accompanied by faculty member Er. Nater Singh. Students were given exposure on operation of EDM, Wire cut, Machining centre, Turning Centre and Forging hammer in operation.

 

 

Industrial Visit at VERKA MILK PLANT, JALANDHAR

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at VERKA MILK PLANT, JALANDHAR on 15thSeptember, 2017 for third year students to impart practical knowledge in the subject of Production Management and Thermal Engineering as well as to have on the site experience of witnessing a processing of milk products. The Doaba cooperative milk producers union Ltd., Jalandhar was set up in the year 1972 with a capital cost of Rs.110 lakhs and handling capacity of 50000 liters milk per day. Subsequently, the Plant was expanded in the year 1985 to 1.00 lakh liters of milk/ day and in year 1991 to 3.00 lakh liters of milk per day besides facilities to manufacture milk products like Ghee, Butter, Skimmed Milk Powder, Whole Milk Powder, Dairy Whitener, Verka Vigour, Paneer, Curd, etc. 46 students were accompanied by three faculty members Er.Ved Raj Khullar, Er. Yogesh Sharma and Er. Palwinder Singh. Students were given exposure on operation of Raw Milk testing and processing, cold storage plant, and boilersection and maintenance strategies to be followed in the whole milk plant.

 

Industrial visit at UCHI –BASSI HYDROPOWER STATION

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at HYDROPOWER STATION UCHI –BASSI on 18thApril, 2017 for third year students to impart practical knowledge in the subject of Fluid Machinery as well as to have on the site experience of witnessing a hydro Power Station. More than 40 students were accompanied by two faculty members Er. Hardeeep Singh and Er. Ved Raj Khullar. UCHI-BASSI Hydropower station is one of the main Hydro Electric Station of Mukerian Hydel Project which generate the 58.5 MW power. Students observed that the power house is vertical salient pole umbrella types, has three number of KAPLAN turbine rotating in clockwise direction with 166.7 rpm (rating of each units is 19.5 MW), turbine output is 27300 HP, 06 numbers of blades. Discharge and head required for the maximum power generation is 3701cusec and 22.5 meters respectively. Also students were given detailed information about the power project i.e. it comprises of 4 Power Houses. Power House No. 1 & 2 have 6 Nos (3 at each Power House) machines of 15 MW capacity each whereas Power House No.3 & 4 have 6 Nos. (3 at each Power House) machines of 19.5 MW capacity each. The total generating capacity is 207 MW of all the 12 Nos. Machines. The Mukerian Hydel Project generates electrical energy at 11 KV and after stepping up to 132 KV, the same is transmitted to Grid system at 132 KV. Power House No. I, is connected with Power House No.II and Power House No.II with PH No. III and PH No. III with PH-IV through 132 KV double circuit lines carried on towers. There are four 132 KV circuit lines for evacuation of electric energy generated, two numbers at PH-II to Jalandhar (through 132 KV Bhogpur and 132 KV Tanda circuits) and other two at PH-IV through 132 KV Sri-Hargobindpur Circuit I&II. Students were also given exposure on operation of turbines and maintenance strategies to be followed.

 

 

Industrial visit at Hydel Power station

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at HYDROPOWER STATION UCHI –BASSI on 10th April, 2017 for third year students to impart practical knowledge in the subject of Fluid Machinery as well as to have on the site experience of witnessing a hydro PowerStation. More than 44 students were accompanied by two faculty members Dr. Rajesh Khanna and Sh. Ved Raj. Mukerian Hydel Project is one of the main Hydro Electric Projects in the Northern Region situated in the Hoshiarpur District of Punjab. The Mukerian Hydel Project is run of the river project, constructed at Mukerian Hydel Channel emanating from Shah-Nehar Barrage constructed down stream of Pong Dam on River Beas. Students observed that the Barrage has 52 gates and a small artificial lake of holding capacity 3404 acres feet to feed the Mukerian Hydel Channel. Students were given detailed information about the power project i.e. it comprises of 4 Power Houses. Power House No. 1 & 2 have 6 Nos (3 at each Power House) machines of 15 MW capacity each whereas Power House No.3 & 4 have 6 No. (3 at each Power House) machines of 19.5 MW capacity each. The total generating capacity is 207 MW of all the 12 No. Machines. Students were also given exposure on operation of turbines and maintenance strategies to be followed.

Industrial Visit to Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit to Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala on 11th March, 2017 for 3rd year students. 33 students were accompanied by 2 faculty members Mr Nischal Chhabra and Mr. Vipan Bansal. Visiting RCF was of immense knowledge for the students. The purpose of the visit is to provide practical exposure to the students including the technical aspects of mechanical engineering including design, manufacturing and production with latest manufacturing technologies. Students were given exposure to various types of press work; welding operations i.e. CNC controlled plasma cutting, laser cutting, spot welding, GMAW, Robotic welding machine etc. It played a role of a drop of perception in the bucket of knowledge.

 

Visit at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized one day Industrial Visit at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala on 11th February, 2017 for final year students. More than 35 students were accompanied by two faculty members.  Established in 1986, RCF is a coach manufacturing unit of Indian Railways. It has manufactured more than 30000 passenger coaches of different types including self Propelled passenger vehicles which constitute over 50% of the total population of coaches on Indian Railways. Visit to J S Cold Store
 
DAV University Mechanical Engg. Deptt. Organized an industrial visit to J.S cold store plant for B.Tech (Mechanical) students. 
 
Bus left the University for official visit on 1st of April, 2016 at 11.00 am and reached cold store plant at about 11:15 Am. After getting the theoretical lay out of the plant, students visited the various sections of the Plant accompanied by the technician. All the technical questions and queries of the students were completely deciphered by the technician and make them satisfied. 
 
 
The visit was very successful as it not only enhanced student’s knowledge but also wider their thinking in the field of Refrigeration and air condition, also we are thankful to the authorities for their good support and cooperation from all concern.
 

Industrial visit to Rana Sugars Ltd.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an industrial visit for B. Tech students to Rana Sugars Ltd on January 23, 2016. Forty three students participated in the visit. The students under the guidance of the faculty members Mr. Hardeep Singh and Mr. Ved Raj Khullar reached the sugar mill at about 10:30 am. After getting the theoretical lay out of the plant, students visited various sections of the mill accompanied by the Manager and technical officer of the mill. All the technical questions and queries of the students were deciphered by the technical officer. The visit was fruitful as it added to the knowledge of the students.

 
Visit to Bhakra Dam
 
50 students pursuing B Tech Mechanical Engineerng visited Bhakra Dam, Ganguwal Power House on March 2, 2016 under the leadership of Coordinator Aman Sharma and Sumit Nijjar. The visit was organized with the guidance of Mr. Ramandeep Singh. The students visiting the dam were apprised of the construction of the concrete gravity dam across the Sutlej River. They were told that its reservoir, known as the "Gobind Sagar", stores up to 9.34 billion cubic meters of water, enough to drain the whole of Chandigarh, parts of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. The 90 km long reservoir created by the Bhakra Dam is spread over an area of 168.35 km2. In terms of storage of water, it withholds the second largest reservoir in India, the first being Indira Sagar dam in Madhya Pradesh with capacity of 12.22 billion cum.
