A distinguished researcher and outstanding academician Prof (Dr) Manoj Kumar has taken over as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of DAV University Jalandhar. He took over from Dr Jasbir Rishi who was officiating as the VC.
Dr Manoj was serving DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET), Jalandhar as Principal prior to his selection as the Vice-Chancellor.
Mrs J Kackria, Director, DAV CMC, Mr Rajan Gupta, Executive Director, Dr K N Kaul, Officiating Registrar in addition to faculty and staff members welcomed him at the University. They escorted him to the chair as he took over the charge of the office amid holy chants of the Gayatri mantra.
Dr Punam Suri, Chancellor of the University called him up to convey his best wishes to Dr Manoj Kumar. Dr Suri said that Dr Manoj Kumar’s strategic planning abilities and team management skills would make DAV University a leading institution.
A Ph D and M Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (with silver medal) from Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar, Dr Manoj Kumar is also certified in management and leadership from Chartered Management Institute, UK. He was also selected for the UK study tour by AICTE and British Council under UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) in 2019.
He is known for conceiving novel teaching methodology, attracting industrial collaborations and ensuring qualitative placements of the students. He is a master trainer in leadership management duly recognised by AICTE and the British Council.
Giving details of his priorities after joining, Dr Manoj Kumar said that he aimed at enhancing research and quality education at DAV University. “I aim at making students industry ready and more employable,” he said.
He has done outstanding research in the diverse fields of optical and wireless communication. Dr Manoj Kumar also holds the distinction of being one of the top 25 academic leaders across India recognized by Wipro Mission 10X.
He has supervised nine Ph D candidates, published 130 research articles in leading journals and conference proceedings, authored eight textbooks and has two patents to his credit. He is a Reviewer for Elsevier Science’s International Journal-Optical Fiber Technology, Springer, ICFAI Journals and World Scientific and Engineering Academy and Society (WSEAS) for international conferences.
He is a Fellow-The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and Institutions of Engineers India, Life Member- The Indian Science Congress Association. Life Member- Computer Society of India, Indian Society of Technical Education, Member, Executive council (Punjab Academy of Sciences and 2009-2012).
