A Breast Cancer Awareness Camp was organized by the Women Empowerment Cell of DAV University on 13.10.21. Dr. Muveen Mittal, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Shrimann Superspeciality Hospital, Jalandhar was invited as the expert speaker. In his lecture, he discussed the various causes and risk factors associated with breast cancer viz. age, diet, genetic, environmental, lifestyle, late pregnancy, early menarche and late menopause, etc. He stressed on the early detection of the disease to ensure full recovery. Dr. Mittal briefed the students about the different self-examination methods and the latest diagnostic techniques. He also introduced the different treatment techniques used chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgeries, etc. While laying stress on the importance of regular screening tests on the basis of clinical symptoms, he also explained how neglecting the symptoms might aggravate the problem.

The programme commenced by lamp lighting ceremony and a brief speech by honourable Vice chancellor (offg.), Dr. Jasbir Rishi. In her inaugural address, she discussed about the need and importance of such awareness camps. She also emphasized that girls at early age should be aware about these deadly diseases. She encouraged the students to volunteer themselves for spreading awareness and stressed to conduct such camps in future also.
