Jalandhar, November 25

DAV University in Jalandhar hosted a three-day Environment Education Programme under the umbrella of Mission Life, an initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). The event was sponsored by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST).

Over 260 students from 10 colleges and universities in the Jalandhar district participated in the programme, which set out to educate and mobilize the youth on pressing environmental issues. The central objectives included enlightening participants about the repercussions of human activities on climate change, advocating for environmental protection measures, and emphasizing the significance of waste recycling.

The inaugural day of the Environment Education Programme focused on the impact of environmental pollution on climate change. More than 100 participants engaged in a poster presentation, with 14-year-old Harmeher Kaur from Ivy World School earning a consolation prize for her compelling entry.

The second day of the conference highlighted waste recycling, featuring a university-organized exhibition. Approximately 60 students showcased their creative talents in recycling waste materials, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices.

A rally against stubble burning took place in the villages surrounding DAV University. A total of 110 students actively participated, educating local farmers about the adverse effects of stubble burning on the environment. The students also emphasized how responsible agricultural practices could serve as an additional source of income for farmers.

At the valedictory function, Dr Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, DAV University, praised the programme’s success and expressed contentment with the positive results it achieved.
