DAV University recently held a webinar on "Terahertz Photonics", organized by the Research and Development Cell of the university. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Gagan Kumar, Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, who discussed the basic introduction to the concepts of design and fabrication of metamaterials for the generation and detection of Terahertz generation (THz generation).

The webinar was attended by more than 50 students, who gained insights into emerging technologies such as digital imaging, 6G communications, and other applications of THz spectroscopy in various fields. Dr. Kumar began his lecture with an introduction to terahertz and terahertz waveform. He then discussed the THz time-domain spectroscopy and THz metamaterials. The resource person highlighted the various applications of THz spectroscopy in medical imaging, emphasizing that THz imaging is safer than X-rays.

Dr. Kumar also discussed the advantages of using THz imaging in dental science, as it provides higher contrast in clinical diagnosis. He also spoke about the use of THz spectroscopy in COVID-19 detection, security screening, crime prevention, explosive and drug detection, food inspection, and communications.

The webinar was highly informative and interactive, with participants better understanding the fundamentals of terahertz photonics and its applications. Dr. Keshav Walia, Head of the Research and Development Cell presented the vote of thanks and acknowledged the consistent support and motivation of Dr. Manoj Kumar (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. K. N. Kaul (Registrar), and Dr. R.K. Seth (Dean Science and Engineering) in organizing academic activities at DAV University.
