January 26, 2023

Jalandhar, January 25

DAV University organized an expert talk on enhancing employability skills. The event, organized by Department of Commerce, Business Management and Economics (CBME) in collaboration with the Institution's Innovation Council, was led by Dr. Sanjiv Gupta, an industrial expert and academician.

During the first session, “From Classroom to Boardroom,” Dr. Gupta discussed the skills that employers are looking for in prospective employees. He emphasized the importance of conducting a SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and encouraged students to focus on developing their strengths and addressing their weaknesses. He also highlighted the importance of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities in becoming more employable, and urged students to pursue skills rather than titles. Dr. Gupta also noted that the rise of digitalization, artificial intelligence, globalization, and innovation is changing the business paradigm, and that employers are increasingly looking for candidates with team-building skills, learning agility, emotional intelligence, and a “thinking out of the box” attitude. He closed by encouraging students to “design their own” success, rather than copying it.

In the second session, “From Zero to Unicorn,” he discussed the importance of entrepreneurship in providing employment opportunities. The speaker emphasized the importance of finding solutions to society's problems, and provided tips on how to develop successful startup ideas by considering passions, talents, market demand and societal needs. He highlighted the importance of innovation in creating successful startups, and provided examples of companies like Amazon who expanded their business model to become successful. He emphasized the importance of networking skills, delegation, responsibility and overcoming hindrances in starting a new business. Additionally, the speaker emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial competencies such as willingness to fail, critical thinking, commitment to work, vision, self-confidence, systematic planning and initiative. He also advised the attendees to think critically before taking any steps in their business.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Namrita and Ms. Bindia, Assistant Professors of CBME. The Dean, CBME, Dr. Gitika Nagrath, Head of Department, Dr. Girish Taneja, Dr. Sandeep Vij, President of IIC, and other faculty members wewre also present at the occasion.
